Kjernen i systemet er ShipRep databasen. Brukere kan legge inn og hente ut data til / fra databasen via et WWW grensesnitt. Systemet kan motta XML meldinger via E-post, parse / verifisere disse, hente ut innholdet fra meldingen og oppdatere ShipRep databasen i henhold til dette. Systemet kan hente ut data fra ShipRep databasen, lage XML meldinger og sende disse med E-post.
